
Why Do We Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi?
Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of Lord Ganesha. Sheree Ganesha is considered to be the Lord of wisdom, knowledge and prosperity.
The festival marks its presence during Hindu calendar month of Bhadrapada, which starts in the shukla chaturthi. Generally the day falls in between mid-August and Mid September. The festival is celebrated for 10 days and ends with Ananta Chaturdashi which marks the birth of Lord Ganesha.
The hindu mythologies say that Lord Ganesh was born on a fourth day or chaturthi as we call during the hindu month of Magh in a fortnight. Hence, the birth of Lord Ganesha is marked on 4th day or Chaturthi.
